Your students will become Little Programmers in this engaging five-day coding unit! Over the course of the week, they'll learn that coding is simply a set of precise instructions—starting with directional words like forward, backward, left, and right, then moving on to using arrow symbols to record those directions. By Day 3, your students will discover what debugging means and practice finding and fixing mistakes in code sequences. They'll create step-by-step paths to solve puzzles, working with grids, obstacles, and peer testing to see their instructions come to life. The unit culminates in a grand challenge where each child plans, tests, and refines their own multi-step pathway to reach a goal—celebrating their growth with a Junior Coder certificate.
The lessons blend hands-on movement activities (think Robot Simon Says and floor grids) with meaningful worksheets that help children record their thinking using symbols and arrows. Your kindergarteners will develop problem-solving skills, learn the language of sequencing, and build confidence in their ability to create, test, and improve their own code.
