Your students will become confident young programmers in this engaging 5-day unit on concurrent coding. Instead of writing instructions that happen one after another (like in Grade 1), Grade 2 students will learn to code events that happen at the same time—think synchronized robots, parallel rescue missions, and coordinated festival parades.
Each day builds on the last. Students start by moving two robots simultaneously on floor grids, then progress to writing their own concurrent code using arrow cards and trigger symbols. By mid-week, they're acting as "code surgeons," diagnosing bugs in broken programs and fixing them without disrupting the other character's path. The unit culminates in a full project: students coordinate a Grand Festival, synchronizing a marching band and float to arrive at the stage on the same step, then troubleshooting obstacles and describing the final scene using spatial language.
