Grade 3 Spatial Sense: Fencing the Farm
Fences to build, fields to measure, mysteries to solve 🚀 Your students become farm planners picking the perfect rulers, tiles, and units to tackle real measurement challenges across five hands-on days.
About this resource
Your students will spend five days on a farm-themed measurement journey learning to measure perimeter, area, capacity, and mass using the right tools and units. Each day builds on the last, with Roo the Ruler Rabbit and Cal the Calendar Cat guiding learners through hands-on stations where they measure field perimeters with rulers, compare areas by covering shapes with tiles, estimate using square centimetres and square metres, and explore capacity and mass with non-standard units. By the end of the week, your students will confidently pick the right metric unit for any real-world measurement problem and explain why smaller units give bigger counts. The unit includes five complete lessons with minds-on activities, station-based action tasks, and consolidation discussions, plus a summative assessment and rubric to track growth.
