Your students will dive into hands-on measurement through a five-day unit that makes comparing objects concrete and playful. Each day builds on the last: Day 1 focuses on length (longer, shorter, same), Day 2 explores mass using balance scales and the hand-feel test, Day 3 compares capacity, Day 4 introduces non-standard measurement with cubes and footsteps, and Day 5 brings it all together with a measurement carnival. The unit uses engaging puppet characters (Max the Measure Moose and Tess) to anchor learning, three differentiated stations per lesson, and plenty of whole-group modeling so kids understand the 'Line-Up Rule' and 'Weight Rule' before working independently. Your students will use everyday classroom objects—markers, crayons, blocks, feathers, rocks—so the learning feels real and relevant.
